Mediterranean region heavily depends on natural ecosystems when it comes to quality of life and wellbeing of citizens, territorial attractiveness and consequently, economic value of the entire area. Natural resources in the region are highly valuable and have been identified as an important driver for socio-economic development.

In order to maintain natural ecosystems and facilitate sustainable growth of the protected areas of the Mediterranean basin EcoSUSTAIN overall objective is to increase management capacity of protected areas by developing integrated management and networking methodology, as well as innovative monitoring tools to support monitoring.
